538 Young Alumni Respond to GOLD Challenge

The 2018 GOLD Challenge on Nov. 7 was a tremendous show of support to DePauw’s students by young alumni. A total of 538 donors gave $23,537 in direct support and released $60,000 in matching gifts from other alumni donors. Events throughout the day celebrated the student body, faculty, coaches, and other members of the campus community to boldly proclaim that #goldgivesback. The message was heard clearly not only on campus, but also on social media, and over the airwaves of WGRE, as the on-air student talent thanked GOLD alumni for the impact of their giving.

Christy Umlauf Moberly ’82 contributed a matching gift of $25,000. “It is important to provide today’s students with the same high-quality DePauw education that I enjoyed,” Christy said. “I give to The Fund for DePauw to help make possible need-based scholarships to ensure the access and success of each student at DePauw.”

Dave and Lynn Bohmer, both of the class of 1969, are celebrating their reunion this coming year and provided a matching gift of $25,000. “Since DePauw has been a major part of our lives, Lynn and I are pleased to offer our gift to The Fund for DePauw as a match to encourage young alumni to join us in supporting our alma mater. Off-campus and international study have always been especially important to us. We give to help make those life-changing experiences possible for today’s students” Dave said.

Many GOLD Challenge donors posted comments on social media about their reasons for giving:

"DePauw is where I made life-long friendships, learned to think critically, and see our world from a new perspective. I hope that generations to come are able to have the same experience that I did in my four years at DePauw.” -- Maria Rummel ’17

“In the moments I feel most proud of myself and the man that I am becoming, I often credit my growth and willingness to evolve to my DePauw experience.” -- Josh Jones ’14

“DPU taught me how to ask questions, how to respectfully challenge the ideas around me, and how to advocate for myself and others - can't imagine who I'd be without my DePauw experience!” -- Ellen Tinder ’17

“I quickly learned DePauw was a microcosm of the world, filled with different perspectives, religions, and most importantly the opportunity for growth. The bonds I formed at this university will last a lifetime. I will forever be grateful to the Posse foundation for the opportunity. #PosseLove #NYPosse11” -- Luis Estrella ’11
