Philanthropy in Motion: The Campaign for DePauw Accelerates
The Campaign for DePauw is making significant and impressive progress toward its $300 million goal some 18 months after the public kickoff. National campaign co-chair David Hoover ’67 reports that the campaign has reached 87 percent of its original goal.
“We have been fortunate that some extremely generous and visionary alumni and friends have formalized major philanthropic commitments to DePauw already this year,” Hoover said. “It’s been inspiring to see these individuals and families match their philanthropic passions with a specific program on campus that resonates strongly with them and where their contributions can have the most meaningful impact.”
The campaign has reinvigorated the culture of philanthropy that has always been an integral part of the DePauw community. It provides the call to action, clear definition of DePauw’s aspirations and a transparent accounting of the resources required to make DePauw the greatest of liberal arts institutions.
One campaign priority, The DePauw Trust, aims to raise $100 million for need-based support for promising students. Recently, alumni and friends made gifts and commitments of more than $1.5 million to endow the Brian W. Casey DePauw Trust Scholarship. This tribute to “the students’ president” will provide need-based scholarships for generations to come.
“We’ve made tremendous progress and are extremely grateful for the alumni and friends who have been part of the campaign to date,” said Melanie Norton, vice president for development and alumni engagement. “We have much more work to do, but we support a worthy mission and look forward to engaging more alumni, parents and friends in the life of the University in the years to come.”
DePauw is grateful for the nearly 15,000 alumni and friends who have supported the campaign to date, many with gifts to The Fund for DePauw. In the final two months of the presidency of Brian Casey, we are rallying to finish the 2015-16 year with the spirit of tenacity, integrity and philanthropy that is the spirit of DePauw. There are still many ways for our DePauw family to engage with the campaign and ensure DePauw remains strong into the future.
