Nadia Mitchem '98 Makes a Mark Through Volunteerism
During her years on DePauw’s campus, Nadia T. Mitchem ’98 was an active and engaged student leader. The psychology major from St. Louis was involved in leadership activities such as Student Congress and Union Board, and in extracurricular groups ranging from the Association of African American Students (AAAS) to Residence Hall Association (RHA). As an alumna, Mitchem’s life and work is imbued with the spirit of active leadership and volunteerism. In June 2016, Mitchem will receive DePauw’s Young Alumni Award. Mitchem currently serves as chair of the University’s Board of Visitors, but her service to her alma mater has been ongoing. She served on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, coordinated Coming Together events for alumni of color, and connected with fellow graduates and current students in a myriad of ways. She is also a loyal contributor to the University’s annual giving program. Mitchem has worked in fields that allowed her to make a positive difference for society. Currently, she is director of volunteer partnerships at American Red Cross National Headquarters. She believes in finding ways to connect people willing to help with causes in need of energy and expertise. She is inspired by finding new ways to help nonprofits grow through collaboration and partnership, skills she cultivated as a student leader at DePauw.
