Lou Ubben Walton '57 Says Reunions are Great Fun
Approaching 60 years since her graduation from DePauw, Lou Ubben Walton ’57 says it’s the special fun of reunions that keeps her volunteering and returning to the University. It was 2002 when she and her husband, Dwight Walton ’57, visited campus for their 45th reunion. “I enjoyed it so much that I volunteered to help with our 50th reunion planning committee,” she said. Dwight brought several hundred stuffed tigers for the class to throw out to alumni and friends during their 50th reunion grand procession through campus. Lou is proud that the class joined together philanthropically to establish The Class of 1957 John J. Wittich Endowed Scholarship to provide need-based financial assistance in honor of legendary DePauw dean of admission and 1944 alumnus John Wittich, who admitted the members of the Class of 1957.
Lou and Dwight look forward to reconnecting with friends from their days as a DePauw student and new friends they have gotten to know through visits during Alumni Reunion Weekend over the years. “It’s great catching up with what everyone has done with their lives,” Lou said. “I love seeing my Alpha Chi sisters, and it’s also been fun to meet people I didn’t know very well in school.”
Lou is happy to be engaged as a reunion volunteer once again. “I’m responsible for helping with The Hoot newsletter for our 60th reunion coming up this summer,” she said. “The University is very accommodating and will provide shuttle service around campus during the weekend. I’m encouraging everyone to make their reservations early and enjoy a weekend of celebrations and friendship.”
